On 14th May 2009,

Conservatives regained the leadership of the Council following the resignation of the Liberal Democrat Leader of the Council from the Liberal Democrat party in Gosport; the departure of two Liberal Democrat Councillors to Australia where they have now taken up residence.

This coupled with the Labour Group's realisation that by supporting the Liberal Democrats they had enabled the the huge abuses of power and complete disregard for the conventions and integrity of the council procedures perpetrated by the Liberal Democrat group leader and as a consequence they withdrew their support.

Conservatives have reported the lies, character assasinations and abuses of their position by the Liberal Democrats including their "Focus" leaflets to the police and the standards board. These serious insults to the integrity of our elections and Gosport Council are now the subject of ongoing investigation and we await with interest what transpires.

They did not fight the election on policies and the concerns of Gosport people, they had nothing to offer and that is what the people of Gosport got. Nothing!

On taking control, Conservatives have given the assurance that the adminstration of Gosport Council will be underatken with integrity and with transparency. No more decisions behind closed doors and without proper consultation. The best interests of the people of Gosport will be held paramount.

It took just 12 months in office for the Lib Dem's to prove that they are completely untrustworthy and that the people of Gosport cannot rely on them to listen or to make decisions that are not just for the benefit of their leader's commercial interests. They have no regard or interest in what is best for Gosport and the people of the town.
