A NEW ERA OF CO-OPERATION?

Because of the various misdeeds and self seeking interests of the previous administration of Gosport Borough Council under the leadership of Councillor Chegwyn and the puppet leader of the council Councillor Smith, it has been a busy period producing articles to inform the people of Gosport as to the nature of the damage that was being done to the town.

It has been said that this site is anti Liberal Democrat and I would suppose that the circumstances that have promoted so many articles criticising and blowing the whistle on the antics of this sorry bunch here in Gosport have certainly ensured that perhaps this could be true.

That Councillors Chegwyn, Hicks and Smith have all been adjudged guilty of misconduct by the Standards Board of England would suggest that Conservatives have been fully justified in bringing matters to the attention of the people who visit this website.

The work of the Standards Board is not get complete and we are now awaiting the further considerations of the Adjudication panels in respect of charges that have been laid.

It would be fair to point out that we Conservatives do believe that there are Liberal Democrat Councillors here in Gosport who put themselves forward for election with the best of intentions, wishing to serve the people of Gosport. We suspect that they did not at the time realise that their election campaign was one that was based on lies, distortions and character assassinations and perhaps were persuaded by Councillor Chegwyn who was the author of those awful leaflets put out in their name that this was the way in which democracy works.

Those councillors are now faced with the realism, seeing their leader for what he really is and cannot be impressed by what they are faced with. Councillor Smith who had thought that his elevation to the leadership of the council would allow him to push through his extraordinary excuses for policies, found himself sidelined as Councillor Chegwyn pushed ahead with his agenda, running the council without any consultation or consideration for the rules but with particular emphasis on his own interests of running musical festivals for profit.

Councillor Smith now resigned from the Liberal Democrat Group and facing more serious charges, sits as a lonely and dispirited independent councillor making hypocritical noises at what he sees as the greed of Conservative Cllr Mark Hook who now is elected to be leader of the council in his place and is entitled to the allowances that Smith once enjoyed.

Infuriated and dismayed at the content of Lib Dem leaflets being printed in his name, one senior Lib Dem Councillor and County Councillor, Keith Gill has openly condemned the leaflets and publically made a statement dissociating himself from the party line under Councillor Chegwyn instructing that no leaflets containing such blatant lies and character assassinations be put out in his name for the coming county elections.

Councillor Gill is to be congratulated for his integrity, courage and refusal to associate his good name with the despicable rubbish that Councillor Chegwyn is putting through letterboxes in his bid to hang onto his county seat.

Already we have several Liberal Democrat Councillors apologising to Conservatives for allowing themselves to be led by the nose and tricked into costing the people of Gosport over £1,000.00 through abuse of the council rules and forcing an additional meeting of the full council to which just two of their number, the deputy Mayor and Councillor Gill bothered attend.

Cllr Mark Hook has made a commitment to run the council openly and to give members of all parties the opportunity to have their say on the important matters that need to be addressed. Hopefully, in a spirit of cooperation and regard for the best interests of Gosport's people the Liberal Democrats will join with us and the members of the Labour Group and desist from the spoiling tactics and boycotting of council meetings that appear to be their new method of serving the town.
