It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of former councillor Ivor Foster MBE. Ivor passed away on the 25th August 2008 at 23:30hrs in Queen Alexandra Hospital.

THE GOSPORT BOTTLENECK?
Fareham Borough Council want to give the green light to this spagetti junction in their town centre so that a new Tesco store can be built closeby. Gosport's Conservative councillors oppose the new Quay Street roundabout layout and are demanding that it be referred to the Secretary of State.
Technical assessment has shown that the proposed alterations will not improve the flow of traffic through this already highly congested roundabout. If built the Tesco store will take away the last piece of land that could be used to provide improvement.
The proposed North fareham development for 10,000 new homes will create significant additional traffic on the roundabout.
Altogether, Gosport's Conservative councillors believe it is totally inappropriate to allow construction of a new foodstore in an area already well served by several such stores. This at the expense of protecting reasonable access to Gosport, whose economy is already stretched to the limit.

If you live in County Durham Labour spends £365 per person
If you live in Birmingham Labour spends £250 per person
in Hampshire we get just £111 per person
Labour now provides only 20% of the money needed through central government grant to Hampshire County Council, the remaining 80% has to be found from Council tax payers to fund essential services in the county.
In 1997, when Labour came to power the position was reversed in that just 20% was funded through council tax.
It is evident that this is blatant deliberate discrimination by a malicious goverment intent on asset stripping the southern counties through more stealth taxes in favour of Labour's strongholds.
Lib Dems' bonkers tax plansAt the last election, the Lib Dems wanted to scrap Council Tax in favour of a local income tax. There’s some sense behind this, (remember the poll tax)– many people, often retired, live in expensive houses but don’t have enormous incomes. Council tax in its present form ignores income and ability to pay, charging people purely on the value of their home.
Well now, they’ve come up with another proposal which sounds completely contradictory. They want to charge a Wealth Tax on people with homes worth more than £1m.
It sounds like a tax against those nasty rich people. But it’s based on the same fallacy that makes council tax so stupid. It simply isn’t true that people in expensive houses are always rich. Many older people have lived in one house for more than half a century – and house price inflation has pushed their house value up to silly levels. That doesn’t mean they have a large income, and certainly doesn’t mean they’re able to pay – or deserving of – a wealth tax.
